The American Heart Association marks a century of commitment to the fight against heart disease and stroke with new initiative in Kentucky. The 100 Survivors Project launches to celebrate the Centennial milestone and individuals from across Kentucky who have battled heart disease and stroke-related conditions.

100 Years Kentucky Survivor Harry Dennison

Harry Dennison: Harry was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect (transposition of the great arteries) the day after he was born. He underwent surgery at 10 days old to correct the defect. Today Harry is a happy and normal 4-year-old.

100 Years Kentucky Survivor Harry Dennison

Harry Dennison: Harry was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect (transposition of the great arteries) the day after he was born. He underwent surgery at 10 days old to correct the defect. Today Harry is a happy and normal 4-year-old.

Larry Weathers: Larry sat down to take a break from work for lunch when he noticed breathing grew difficult and struggled to remain conscious, he had suffered a STEMI heart attack. Thanks to the quick response of paramedics and his committed medical team, he is more alive than ever!

100 Years Kentucky Survivor Larry Weathers

100 Years Kentucky Survivor Rabiya Varcie

Rabiya Varcie: Rabiya had a stroke, leading to a brain bleed. She underwent a craniotomy and faced paralysis on her left side. With the support of medical professionals and therapy, she has made significant progress in walking and hand movement. Despite ongoing challenges, Rabiya has become more independent, returned to work, and remains optimistic about her continued progress.
